Democrat Has Long History of Supporting Working People, Safe Workplaces and Infrastructure Investment
KALAMAZOO –– Today, Operating Engineers 324 endorsed George Franklin for the 6th Congressional District seat because of his long history of backing infrastructure investment, safe workplaces and job creation.
Franklin is running for the Democratic nomination in the 6th Congressional District including Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Van Buren and Allegan counties that is currently represented by Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph).
“George Franklin has been an outspoken leader on issues that are important to us as Operating Engineers: job creation, safe workplaces, infrastructure investment and strong schools. He has a long history of supporting working people and collective bargaining. That is why Operating Engineers 324 is proud to endorse George Franklin for Michigan’s 6th District Congressional seat,” said Operating Engineers 324 Business Manager Douglas W. Stockwell.
Franklin has lived in Michigan for more than 30 years and worked for decades at Kellogg in Kalamazoo. He also was appointed by former Gov. Jim Blanchard to the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees, serving from 1989 to 2001.
“OE 324 needs true partners in Washington who understands that we must start investing in our infrastructure to build our economy for the 21st century. We also need members of Congress who will fight for working people and good-paying jobs. George Franklin understands that and we are proud to support him,” said OE 324 President Ken Dombrow.
Franklin said he is grateful to receive OE 324’s support.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Operating Engineers Local 324. Working families have been left behind by the Republican administration and I am going to Washington to make sure they have a voice. When people are working more for less pay there is a problem. I will fight to give everyone a fair shot so they can provide a good life for their family,” said George Franklin.
