The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) has recently been the target of fraudulent activity, forcing them to take precautions to further secure payments. While no data has been stolen from the agency, some workers currently unemployed may receive a “Stop Payment” notification in their account. It will be accompanied by an email and letter explaining what steps are necessary to restart payments. This will most likely include additional identity verification.
If you receive a notification, email, or letter, it is advised you contact your bank, and provide the UIA with requested materials as soon as possible to restart payments.
