"Operating Engineers 324 Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice Amanda Updike was looking for a career change. This September, Operating Engineers 324 returned to Children's Hospital in Detroit for the third year, partnering with the American Cancer Society to bring a unique construction experience to children undergoing treatment for cancer.For over five years, #OE324 has worked with the ACS to host the Big Dig event, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for pediatric cancer research. Held at the OE324 Construction Career Center in Howell, the event allows kids to operate the heavy equipment we use every day. While unforgettable, the event is out of reach for some children actively undergoing treatment.To make sure no child is left out, we brought the event to them once again!With the support of several signatory contractor partners and more, OE324 set up equipment right outside Children's Hospital. This allowed children to experience the thrill of operating excavators, cranes, and lifts on-site. It was an incredible day filled with laughter, smiles, and unforgettable memories.
