Operating Engineers 324 Endorses Elissa Slotkin for Congress
Democrat Understands Skilled Trades Jobs and Infrastructure Are Critical to Our Economic Future
HOWELL –– Today, Operating Engineers 324 endorsed Elissa Slotkin for the 8th Congressional District seat, citing her strong commitment to rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, advocacy for skilled trades jobs, and support for prevailing wage.
Slotkin is running for the Democratic nomination in the 8th Congressional District including Ingham, Livingston, and Oakland counties that is currently represented by Congressman Mike Bishop (R-Rochester).
“Elissa Slotkin has been a champion for rebuilding our roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. She understands that this creates good jobs and provides a solid foundation to attract businesses and ensure economic growth. We need a member of Congress in the 8th Congressional District with a true commitment to our nation’s infrastructure and maintaining prevailing wage laws. That’s why we’re endorsing Elissa Slotkin,” said Operating Engineers 324 Business Manager Douglas W. Stockwell.
Slotkin lives in Holly and served three tours in Iraq alongside the military, and working as a national security expert for both Democratic and Republican administrations. She has served at the White House and in top roles at the Pentagon, including as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs under the Obama Administration.
“OE 324 has been a pipeline for skilled trades talent in Michigan for decades and Elissa Slotkin understands the importance of the work our members do to keep the state running. Elissa knows that economic opportunity depends on linking talent with careers and that’s what our union is about. We need to have a partner in Washington who gets it on jobs and infrastructure and that’s why we need Elissa Slotkin representing the 8th Congressional District,” said OE 324 Political Director Nic Clark.
Slotkin said she was honored by the endorsement.
“Our strength as a state and as a country is defined by a simple idea: that if you work hard and play by the rules, you’ll do well and your kids will do better. In order to maintain that promise, we must support our unions, which are a vital part of the bedrock of our middle class here in Michigan. That’s why I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324. I had the chance to visit their world-class operators right here in the 8th District, and I know the care and pride they bring to their work. I look forward to working with them, earning members’ votes, and righting the ship for working families in here in Michigan,” said Elissa Slotkin.
